On December 21, 2005 at approximately 8 o’clock pm, Mary Simmons began a 10-hour surgery for a double lung transplant. Being diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of one, she endured years of hospital visits, daily treatments, and countless days of feeling ill.
