Mary

“I feel like I know the young guy who’s lungs I have, I guess I’m either picking up his energy or just formed,

in my mind, who he was.” Mary Simmons

On December 21, 2005 at approximately 8 o’clock pm, Mary Simmons began a 10-hour surgery for a double lung transplant. Being diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of one, she endured years of hospital visits, daily treatments, and countless days of feeling ill. Months before her operation, she became dependent on oxygen. “…I realized I was alive but not living. Then when I got on oxygen 24/7, Greg and I were basically going to watch me die…”
